Poker professional player Gus Hansen will be the official commentator for the World Series of Backgammon (WSOB) Championship. The event will start in November at the UK Masters, in London. Hansen will be accompanied by co-commentator John Clark and host Jessie Cantrell.
Originally a backgammon pro, Hansen will now return to his gaming roots, though not as a player. “I certainly hope that it will encourage a lot of people (in particular poker players) to take up this great game - there is no doubt that it will develop your math skills thereby improving your decisions at the poker table," he said.
Also known as ‘The Great Dane’, the Danish poker star is excited about his chance to give his insights to a wider audience, as expressed on his Full Tilt Poker Blog. From London, the WSOB will head to the TrueMoneyGames Nordic Open in Copenhagen –March ’08- and the Riviera Cup in Cannes –July ’08-.
The WSOB tour will now include a ‘grand finale’, to be held immediately after the Riviera Cup. Top eight players from each of the three events, together with top eight online players will win €10.000 seats for this event. The final event will be held in a fast paced shootout – style.
