The Trinidad Backgammon Association held its first tournament this month. After battling for a long time, Barbadian Mohia Ma'at defeated John Wallis –also Barbadian- and got the $ 5.000 grand cash prize.
The competition was fierce, especially towards the end, when only these two competitors remained. Ma’at, a law student currently living in Trinidad, finally managed to win the tournament, getting both the cash prize and an honorary title of ‘First Backgammon Champ’.
Given the international popularity Backgammon has had lately, the Association organized the tournament to expose more people to the game. The first tournament took place at the Sweetlime Restaurant. The Association intends to organize monthly tournaments from now on.
