The Strawberry Hill Hotel and Spa in St. Andrew, Jamaica, will host a backgammon tournament from June 6 though 8. This board game for two players is played with a board, two sets of fifteen checkers, two pairs of dice, a doubling cube and dice cups.
This will be the third edition of the High Stakes Backgammon Tournament and approximately 32 players from all over the world are expected to sign up for it. The championship will give out cash and prizes for more than 1.5 million Jamaican dollars (about 20,000 American dollars).
“Backgammon is played by millions of people around the world and the High Stakes Backgammon Tournament at Strawberry Hill is the first and only one of its kind in Jamaica,” organizer Alastair MacBeath commented.
The registration fee is 500 American dollars and it includes participation costs, meals and drinks for the whole weekend.
