The backgammon game is created 5000 years ago in Mesopotamia. It is a game of wit and strategy besides luck, for that reason many people like it.
Backgammon consists of a rectangular board, divided vertically by the Bar, which serves as a deposit for the chips that has been taken out of the game by the opponent.
In the main area, there are 24 triangles, twelve in one end and another twelve in front of them. These triangles are painted in different colors, usually black and red. One red, one black, one red and so on.
To play backgammon, beside the board you need chips, 30 chips, 15 for each player. These chips are also painted in different colours, generally black and white, 15 chips of each color.
There are also the dice, four regular dice (two for each player) and the Doubling Cube. Regular dice have the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 painted on them, like any regular dice. The Doubling cube has a 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 painted on it, and it is used to show in which doubling stage the players are and which player can redouble.
The object of the backgammon is to take all your chips out of the board after you put them in your home board. To do this, you have to roll your dice and move your chips accordingly to the amount reached in the roll.
This is a game for two backgammon players, but they can team up, but never in more than two teams, and is not wise to team with more than one person, so, basically, it is a game for two or four players. There is not an age limit, but children are not likely to play the game because of its difficulty.
